(New York, NY)—The 9/11 terrorist attacks are the subject of a new course that will be taught in America’s classrooms.
Aimed at junior high and high school students and initially targeted for schools in New York City, California, New Jersey, Alabama, Indiana, Illinois and Kansas, if successful, the course will be offered nationwide.
“The 9/11 terrorist attacks are among the most pivotal and dramatic event in America’s history,” says Steven M. Centore, author of the new book One of Them: A First Responder’s Story. “The attacks continue to reverberate throughout the country and the world and for that reason alone should be taught to every kid.”
Mr. Centore is a federal employee, a 9/11 first responder, a nuclear physicist and a Navy veteran who has appeared at congressional hearings to advocate for the medical care and financial support of the thousands of first responders who were made ill by contaminants when the World Trade Center collapsed. His book details his own personal experience at Ground Zero on 9/11 and after.
“On September 11, 2001 our nation’s path was forever altered. Later, as we went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan, our course was again changed. Thousands of Americans have been killed or wounded, more than a trillion dollars have been spent on the ongoing ‘war against terror,’ and our government has passed Draconian laws against our citizenry—leaving us with an uncertain future,” adds Mr. Centore.
The 9/11 course was developed by the New-Jersey-based September 11th Education Trust in collaboration with educators. The curriculum includes:
· Videos, lectures and interactive exercises
· Interviews with elected officials including former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
· Interviews with 9/11 first responders, rescue workers and survivors
· Interviews with 9/11 victims and their family members
· Mapping of terrorist activities via Google Earth
“It’s very important that we help our younger generations understand what really happened that day and why people sacrificed their health and even their lives in the rescue and clean up efforts,” says Mr. Centore.

I FEEL THE 9/11 HAPPENING WAS A CULMINATION OF HAPPENINGS THAT HAS LED TO EVEN MORE THINGS THAT ARE BOUND TO HAPPEN, MEANING THAT IT, 9/11, WAS A WAKE-UP CALL OR A WARNING THAT CHANGES ARE DUE AND PAYABLE AND WE ARE POWERLESS AT SOME POINT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. IT IS A GENERATION THAT, OBVIOUSLY, PREFERS THE AMUSEMENT PARK THRILL-SEEKING WAY OF AMERICAN LIFE AS OPPOSED TO THE SENSIBLE- FIRST LOGICS OF THE PAST OR WITH PAST GENERATIONS. NEW YORK IS EMBRACED BY THE LITERAL WORLD AND HAS BEEN FOR MANY DECADES. NEW YORK WAS, AT FIRST, THE SEAT FOR OUR NATIONAL GOVERNMENT. NEW YORK CITY IS A FATAL ATTRACTION THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO LOVE, KNOWING FULL WELL THE DANGERS INVOLVED. BUT, LOVE IS ON THIS WISE, THE INFORMED WOULD SAY. THE THRILL RIDE IS GENUINE AND NOT FANTASY. NEW YORK IS PAST DUE FOR ANYTHING THAT COULD HAPPEN TO IT. THE SKYSCRAPERS WERE TREND SETTERS FOR THE REST OF THE COUNTRY. THEY ARE LITERAL REMINDERS OF TOMBSTONES IN CEMETERIES. THE SKYSCRAPERS/TOOMBSTONE STRUCTURES BELONG TO NONE AND AT THE SAME TIME, BELONG TO ALL. THE FIVE MEN ACCUSED OF BOMBING THE TWIN TOWERS WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS FIVE WHO ARE SEEN ON THE ONE HAND, CRIMINALS AND ON THE OTHER HAND CELEBRATES WORTY OF HONOR OR GLORY. THE FIVE COULD REPRESENT THE NATION, THE FIVE COULD REPRESENT THE ENTIRE WORLD, TODAY, MEANING WHAT WE, AS A SOCIETY, DO TO THEM, WE DO TO OURSELVES IN THE LONG RUN. WE HAVE COME FULL CIRCLE WITH SOME IMPORTANT THINGS, SUCH AS A CURE FOR CANCER AND NOW THE FULL KNOWLEDGE ACCEPTANCE THAT NEW YORK IS A FATAL ATTRACTION THAT IS A FAULT TO ALL AND A CREDIT TO NONE OR A CREDIT TO ALL AND A FAULT TO NONE AND THE FIVE ACCUSED ARE, INDEED, SACRIFICED SUBJECTS REPRESENTINT THE ENTIRETY OF US ALL. WITH THIS IN MIND, WE PRAY FOR THE COMFORT OF US ALL AT THIS TIME OF CRISIS AND NEW BIRTH. THE BIRTH PAINS ARE BEING FELT WORLD-WIDE,BUT, WE KNOW THAT THE DELIVERY IS IMMINENT AND WITH THIS, WE ARE ACCEPTING OF A SITUATION, 9/11, THAT TRULY MAY BE A WAKE-UP CALL IN A VERY POSITIVE WAY IN THE LONG RUN.
